The Lighter Side of Data

As we come to the end of another eventful year, we thought we'd share with you a few of our favourite data analytics related cartoons. They capture in a light hearted manner, some of the challenges that make our jobs so fascinating.
Making strategic decisions with data
It's tempting to ignore what your data are telling you, especially when it's bad news. Too often, short term quarterly targets take precedence over building lasting solutions.

Don't be a Turkey when it comes to predictive analytics
Not at Thanksgiving. Not at any other time.

Data privacy is a huge concern
As data scientists, we're sometimes thought of as 'Big Brother'. You know, Creepy as opposed to Cool? Don't worry folks. We're the good guys.

Start with a problem, end with a workable solution
We love the artificial intelligence behind driverless cars and other ground breaking innovations. However we'd be the first to advise clients not to be bamboozled by the science. Rather focus on the problem you're trying to solve.

Data without action isn't much use
Get into the habit of articulating the decision you want to take - before you ask for data and insights. It makes for much tighter execution, which is what we all want, right?

Nullius in verba
The above phrase, loosely translated as 'take nobody's word for it', was the motto of the Royal Society, an independent scientific academy founded in London in 1660. Even today, it's amazing how many decisions in board rooms are taken on a passionately held, gut feel. As Jim Barksdale the former CEO of Netscape once said, 'If we have data, let’s look at data. If all we have are opinions, let’s go with mine.'
